Terms of Use
Effective July 16, 2026
These terms govern your use of the Cairn app and the cairnmaps.app services. By using Cairn you agree to them. If you downloaded Cairn from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
What Cairn is
Cairn is a community map of photography spots. Users upload photos with location data; those photos mark spots other users can discover, save, and visit.
Your account
You're responsible for your account and what happens under it. You must be at least 13 years old — or the higher minimum age your country requires (14 in Bulgaria, up to 16 elsewhere in the EU) — to create one. You can delete your account, and all content you've contributed, at any time in the app.
Your content
You keep ownership of the photos you upload. By publishing a photo to the map, you grant Cairn a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host and display it within the app and its services, so the community feature can work. The license ends when you delete the photo or your account.
Only upload photos you took or have the right to share. If your photo shows identifiable people, you are responsible for having their permission to publish it on a public map — and anyone who appears in a photo may request its removal at any time through the in-app report option ("I want this image of me removed") or by emailing support@cairnmaps.app.
If you believe a photo on Cairn infringes your copyright, report it in the app ("Stolen image — I am the author") or email us with a link to the original. We remove infringing content and terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
Rules
Don't upload content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, violent, infringing, deceptive (including deliberately wrong locations), or spam. Don't harass other users, scrape the service, or interfere with its operation.
Moderation
Every photo can be reported in the app — including for showing you without consent, for copyright infringement, or for inappropriate content — and you can block any photographer to hide their content. Reports go to our moderation inbox immediately. We review them and may remove content or terminate accounts that break these rules, at our discretion.
Cairn Pro
Cairn Pro is an optional upgrade, offered as an auto-renewing subscription — monthly or yearly, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan — or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage or cancel anytime in your App Store account settings. The lifetime option is not a subscription: you pay once and it never renews. Current prices are always shown in the App Store, and refunds are handled by Apple under App Store terms. Uploading photos is free — always, for everyone.
Visit spots at your own risk
Photo spots are contributed by users. Locations may be inaccurate, hard to reach, dangerous, or on private property. Cairn does not verify them. You alone are responsible for your safety and for respecting private property, protected areas, and local laws when visiting any location found through the app. Sun times and weather shown in the app are estimates from third parties and must not be relied on for safety decisions.
No warranties; limitation of liability
Cairn is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cairn and its creator are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including harm connected to visiting locations discovered through it. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law grants you and that cannot be waived.
Changes and termination
We may update these terms or discontinue the service; material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. Continuing to use Cairn after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Bulgaria, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are an EU consumer, you also enjoy the protections of the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence.
